Superintendent

"Focus on Student Achievement"
Rick Rodriguez, Superintendent

As we embark into the 2009-2010 school year, it is my privilege and honor to continue to serve the Parlier Unified School District.  We continue to face tremendous challenges in Public Education with the reduction of school budgets.

As we continue to raise academic achievement it is imperative that we have all teachers and support staff collaborate with our parents in order to provide the best for all students during the 2009-2010 school year.  All staff must have a sense of urgency to improve our API and AYP scores.

Upon visiting our schools you will find a safe and welcoming environment, with a focus on student achievement.  Our staff will focus on the Pillars of Character emphasizing the significance of civility, respect, caring and responsibility.

Teachers focus their lessons on the California Content Standards in all core subjects.  This will allow our staff and students the opportunity to concentrate on what our students must learn in the content standards area to prepare for the benchmark exams and the California STAR  Assessments.

We share student progress and critical information with our parents through personal conferences at grades K-6 and send six (6) week progress reports to our parents at grades 7-12 throughout the academic year.

In 2008-2009, Parlier Unified School District had 73% of our seniors at Parlier High School pass the Calfiornia High School Exit Exam and earned their diploma.  Our District's API scores for the 2008-2009 school year is 620 and our high school had a point growth of 42, S. Ben Benavidez Elementary School accomplished a 39 point growth, Cesar E. Chavez Elementary School and Parlier Junior High School grew by 20 points, and Mathew J. Brletic Elementary School received a 13 point growth.  San Joaquin Valley High School met the Alternative School's Accountability Model (ASAM) criteria, meeting its participation graduation rate, API and AYP and is not in Program Improvement status.

In order for our District to continue to improve, I request for all of our parents to partner with your child's school, and communicate with your child's (ren's) teacher(s) regularly to ensure academic success.  I also ask that you monitor your child's (ren's) homework and assist them when possible.  It is also important to have your child (ren) attend the After-School Program for academic intervention.

In closing, I pledge to the entire community that our District will remain solvent for the 2009-2010 school year, and our number one focus will be academic achievement.  In addition, my work will be based on the interest of students while preparing them for a higher education.
